It will kick off its roundtable discussions with \u201cHow We Got Here and How We Get Out \u2013 Defining Security Status.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The initial meeting will be open to the public and will take place from 1 pm to 5 pm at the <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/search\/SEC\">SEC\u2019s<\/a> headquarters at 100 F Street, N.E., Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>SEC Commissioner <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/search\/Hester+Peirce\">Hester Peirce<\/a>, who is leading the Crypto Task Force, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am looking forward to drawing on the expertise of the public in developing a workable regulatory framework for crypto. The roundtables are an important part of our engagement with the public.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Changing attitudes<\/h2>\n<p>The move comes amid a shift in how the SEC views the crypto industry.<\/p>\n<p>Following US President Donald Trump\u2019s election win last November, several pro-crypto individuals have entered his government.<\/p>\n<p>One notable change is who now heads the SEC. Under former president Joe Biden\u2019s administration, crypto critic Gary Gensler was the SEC\u2019s chair. Under him, the agency labeled many crypto coins as securities and filed lawsuits \u2013 some still ongoing \u2013 against various crypto platforms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/donald-trump-selects-pro-crypto-paul-atkins-to-be-the-next-us-sec-chair\/\">Paul Atkins<\/a> has been named as the next SEC chair while <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/acting-sec-chair-uyeda-announces-new-crypto-task-force\/\">Mark Uyeda<\/a> is currently acting chair of the SEC.<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks, however, the SEC has dropped a number of these lawsuits. Some of these include <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/coinbase-scores-major-win-as-sec-set-to-drop-lawsuit\/\">Coinbase<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/sec-drops-investigation-against-gemini-no-action-taken\/\">Gemini<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/sec-to-drop-lawsuit-against-kraken-ending-a-wasteful-politically-motivated-campaign\/\">Kraken<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/sec-drops-investigation-into-robinhood-crypto\/\">Robinhood Crypto<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/sec-drops-case-against-uniswap-marking-a-huge-win-for-defi\/\">Uniswap<\/a>. Yet, while it\u2019s considered a win for many, others think differently.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the recently dropped SEC lawsuit against Gemini, Cameron Winklevoss, Gemini\u2019s co-founder, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile this marks another milestone to the end of the war on crypto\u2026it does little to make up for the damage this agency has done to us, our industry, and America.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">On Monday, the SEC informed our litigation counsel <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JackBaughman27?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JackBaughman27<\/a> that it has closed its investigation into <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Gemini?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Gemini<\/a> and will not be pursuing an enforcement action against us.
