According to Jan van Eck, CEO of VanEck, stablecoins will have a big impact on the cryptocurrency industry in 2025. During an interview with Anthony Pompliano at Bitcoin Investor Week, van Eck emphasized the significance of the ongoing legislative initiatives to control stablecoins. He commended the advancement of Senator Bill Hagerty\u2019s (R-TN) Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act. The act, which was just approved by the Senate Banking Committee, attempts to give stablecoin issuers more regulatory clarity.<\/p>\n

However, van Eck voiced concerns about potential pushback from U.S. banking regulators. He cautioned that they might attempt to block the bill or enforce stringent rules requiring only banks to issue stablecoins. \u201cI\u2019m worried US banking regulators will try to kill the bill or say you have to be a bank to issue a stablecoin,\u201d<\/em> he remarked.<\/p>\n

Tokenization: The Next Big Opportunity<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Van Eck believes that asset tokenization has enormous potential in addition to stablecoins. He thinks that the process of turning conventional financial assets into tokens based on blockchain technology has the potential to spur significant innovation. Van Eck noted that although Europe has made strides in this direction, their dependence on traditional banking institutions still places restrictions on them.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of what\u2019s been allowed in Europe regarding tokenization \u2013 they still say, \u2018Well you have to be tethered to the traditional financial system because of the clearance mechanisms and things like that,\u2019\u201d<\/em> van Eck explained.<\/p>\n

He expressed optimism that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) would follow through on its commitments to foster blockchain innovations. \u201cIf Hester Peirce and the SEC do what they say they\u2019re going to do\u2026 I don\u2019t think we can imagine how much change there\u2019s going to be in terms of tokenization of assets,\u201d<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n
