Zhao made the comments during a May 6 episode of the Farokh Radio podcast.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><em><strong>Good to know<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Zhao pleaded guilty to money laundering in 2023 and was sentenced to four months in prison.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>He stepped down as Binance CEO and cannot hold a role at Binance.US under current restrictions.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>A pardon would not erase the conviction but may let him return to management.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Zhao said his lawyers filed the application roughly two weeks ago, shortly after major outlets like Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal reported that he was seeking a pardon in connection with a possible business link between the Trump family and Binance.US.<\/p>\n<p>He denied those reports at the time but has since changed course.<em> \u201cI got lawyers applying,\u201d<\/em> Zhao said on the podcast.<em> \u201cIf they\u2019re writing this article, I may as well just officially apply.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He also noted that Trump\u2019s previous decision to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/crypto\/arthur-hayes-and-bitmex-co-founders-to-receive-presidential-pardon\/\">pardon three BitMEX executives<\/a><\/strong>, including Arthur Hayes, played a role in his decision to go ahead with the request.<\/p>\n<div class=\"main-org-3-item-ins box-100 relative mb-4\">\n<div class=\"space-org-3-items box-100 relative\">\n<div class=\"box-100 space-org-3-item relative border-tb mt-1 \">\n<div class=\"space-org-3-item-ins box-100 relative\">\n<div class=\"space-org-3-item-terms box-25 relative\">\n<div class=\"space-org-3-item-terms-ins box-100 text-center relative\"> <strong>5BTC or 111% + 111 Free Spins!<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>New players only. The deal included a $4.3 billion fine, of which Zhao personally paid $50 million. As part of the agreement, he stepped down from his role as CEO and accepted a prison sentence.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the earlier media reports, Zhao commented that<em> \u201cno felon would mind a pardon,\u201d<\/em> and said he believed he was the only person in U.S. history to serve time specifically for a violation of the Bank Secrecy Act.<\/p>\n<p>According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a presidential pardon would not remove the conviction from Zhao\u2019s record.
