The price last hovered above these levels in early 2025.<\/p>\n<h2>Telegram news buoys TON price<\/h2>\n<p>As noted above, the main catalyst for Toncoin\u2019s notable price surge is a series of positive news.<\/p>\n<p>The vibe mostly relates to two major announcements linked to Telegram and the TON Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>First, the TON Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ton_blockchain\/status\/1927660320157315482\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed<\/a> the appointment of Nikola Plecas as its new Vice President of Payments.<\/p>\n<p>Plecas, a former Visa executive with deep expertise in crypto product innovation, is tasked with scaling TON\u2019s payment infrastructure to cater to Telegram\u2019s massive user base of over 1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>His focus will be on enhancing interoperability, security, and scalability\u2014key pillars for mainstream adoption of Web3 payments.<\/p>\n<p>Plecas\u2019s experience at Visa, where he shaped the company\u2019s global crypto strategy, positions him as a pivotal figure in TON\u2019s ambition to revolutionize payments within the Telegram ecosystem.<\/p>\n<h2>Why else is Toncoin\u2019s price up today?<\/h2>\n<p>Also fueling optimism around TON is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/finance\/telegram-set-to-raise-1-5-billion-in-bond-issue-despite-ceos-legal-woes-053284f0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> that Telegram plans to raise $1.5 billion through a bond sale.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, market reaction largely jumped as traders noted that Telegram\u2019s initiative is backed by Wall Street heavyweights like Citadel and BlackRock.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not all.
