In a recent appearance on The Master Investor podcast, she laid out three reasons why the top cryptocurrency by market cap stands apart from every other blockchain project.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><strong><em>Good to know<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/cryptocurrencies\/section\/what-is-a-bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> currently trades at $114,410, while <a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/cryptocurrencies\/ethereum-alternative-coin\/\">Ethereum<\/a> sits at $4,202.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>ARK Invest published its first white paper on Bitcoin as a new asset class back in 2016.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Ethereum plays a vital role in decentralized finance, but Bitcoin holds the monetary foundation.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Wood described Bitcoin as unique because it fills three essential functions at once:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<strong>Bitcoin serves three roles<\/strong>\u2026 Bitcoin is the global monetary system \u2013 rules-based, quantity rules to be sure \u2013 and that alone is a very big idea. It is also technology, a layer-1 blockchain that has never been hacked. The other blockchains cannot say that.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And so that\u2019s why the monetary system is based on it. And it is the first of its kind in a new asset class. We wrote our first white paper on that in 2016. However, she noted that the rise of layer-2 scaling solutions is reshaping how value is captured.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI do think uh that Ethereum is playing a very important role and therefore Ether is the native currency in the DeFi ecosystem. A lot of the fees are going to the layer 2s. Robinhood, for example, announced that it was going to start its own layer 2, like Coinbase has\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>They get a disproportionate amount of the fees.
