Gnosis, Zisk, and the Ethereum Foundation announced<\/a> the launch of the Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) on March 29, 2026.<\/span> This collaborative initiative introduces a Layer 2<\/span> ( L2<\/span>) framework designed to transform Ethereum\u2019s fragmented constellation of networks into a single, unified system.<\/span> The project features founding contributions from Jordi Baylina, the creator of Circom, and involves prominent partners including Aave, Centrifuge, and the Swiss-based EEZ Alliance.<\/span><\/p>\n

The framework is vital for restoring \u201csynchronous composability,\u201d allowing smart contracts<\/span> on different rollups to interact within a single transaction with the same security guarantees as the Ethereum mainnet.<\/span> By leveraging real-time zero-knowledge proving technology, the EEZ addresses the \u201chundred islands\u201d problem where nearly $40 billion in value is currently siloed across more than 20 disconnected L2<\/span> networks.<\/span> The system utilizes ETH<\/span> as the default gas<\/span> token and requires no additional bridging infrastructure or new trust assumptions.<\/span><\/p>\n
