Precious metals resumed their rebound, with <span>gold<\/span> and silver both finishing off the week in the green. Copper also had its highest weekly close near the $6.30 <span style=\"font-weight:400\">mark. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> <span>Crypto<\/span> markets aren\u2019t exactly having a broad-based rally. It\u2019s more like a sorting machine, with capital and belief rising again but in narrower, sector-specific flows. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> <span>Stablecoins<\/span>, as one of the strongest use cases for digital assets so far, are becoming so large and so prominent that they are arguably not \u201c <span>crypto<\/span>\u201d anymore, but simply just a new part of the global financial system itself. Basically, the more useful <span>stablecoins<\/span> become, the less exotic they look. They stop feeling like tokens and start feeling like rails.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">A16z argued that the term<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/a16zcrypto.com\/posts\/article\/why-stablecoins-wont-age-well\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201cstablecoins\u201d will fade away<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> for that very reason. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Other news supported that thesis. And Haseeb Qureshi made the more philosophical case that even though the major <span>stablecoins<\/span> are freezable, they remain<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hosseeb\/status\/2051519751109877816\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">cypherpunk enough<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> that Hal Finney would not have been disappointed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Chainalysis is now expecting <span>stablecoin<\/span> <span>volume<\/span> to reach<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/kobeissiletter\/status\/2051363095210045579?s=46&amp;t=4Yu3wvaLPzQD5rGOeliWGw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">$735 trillion by 2035<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">. Currently, <span>stablecoins<\/span> have a $321 billion <span>market cap<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">This is where <span>crypto<\/span>\u2019s center of gravity may be moving. Less toward speculative abstraction, and more toward monetary plumbing and assets that sit closer to the real economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">With the rise of freezable <span>stablecoins<\/span> taking hold of the <span>crypto<\/span> zeitgeist, the privacy narrative is subsequently taking off again. Zcash (ZEC) is up over 72% in the last 30 days and 1,300% in the last year. Monero\u2019s price chart looks nearly as promising. Multicoin Capital managing partner Tushar Jain said the firm has been building a ZEC position since February, arguing that \u201cZcash is a return to the cypherpunk ideals <span>crypto<\/span> was founded on.\u201d Responding to a story about the Central Bank of Brazil banning <span>stablecoin<\/span> and <span>crypto<\/span> settlement in cross-border payments, Barry Silbert, ZEC bull and Digital Currency Group (DCG) CEO <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BarrySilbert\/status\/2050624620156293273\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> \u201c Difficult to ban what you can\u2019t see. Zcash is freedom money.\u201d Mert Mumtaz <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mert\/status\/2050637365081731581\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">agrees<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> <span>Bitcoin<\/span> is strong, but the bid is changing. Jamie Coutts argued that the primary marginal bid is not ETFs anymore, but<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Jamie1Coutts\/status\/2051819889175015575\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">corporate treasuries<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">. In other words, there is plenty of ambient macro discomfort around.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Apparently, <span>bitcoin<\/span> might not need the perfect macro backdrop these days. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Ethereum is being valued like infrastructure, not ideology. An interesting valuation frame this week came from Raoul Pal, who said the right way to think about Ethereum is to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MilkRoad\/status\/2052206360033632592\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">invert the question<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">: if you turned it off, <span>stablecoins<\/span>, <span>DeFi<\/span>, <span>L2s<\/span>, and <span>NFTs<\/span> would mostly go to zero, and that total loss is the value of Ethereum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Lookonchain says Tom Lee has now<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/lookonchain\/status\/2051483918118076795\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">staked almost all<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> of his <span>ETH<\/span> and should be making roughly $330 million a year in rewards at current prices. Meanwhile, Lookonchain also reports that Vitalik and the EF have sold<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/lookonchain\/status\/2050373690215506256\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">over $100m in ETH<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> in the last three months. <span>Solana<\/span> co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko said Ethereum <span>L2s<\/span> are<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/toly\/status\/2050661650437644779?s=46&amp;t=4Yu3wvaLPzQD5rGOeliWGw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">not quantum safe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> and to \u201cabandon all hope.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">That split is classic Ethereum. Enormous embedded economic value, meaningful infrastructure dominance, but endless opportunities for the timeline to become psychologically uninvestable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> <span>Crypto<\/span> is no longer one market, but a series of financial technologies that happen to be blockchain-based. The clearest articulation of that reality came from Cred, who said <span>crypto<\/span>\u2019s current state is<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CryptoCred\/status\/2049820412754694460\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u201ca bit shit\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> and that broad-brush alt season belongs to the past. This week backed him up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Someone tracked every Binance listing in 2025 and found that<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FabianoSolana\/status\/2052347129360740694?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">92% are down<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">, mostly by a lot. Pentoshi argued that <span>crypto<\/span>\u2019s<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/pentosh1\/status\/2051696801548214525?s=46&amp;t=4Yu3wvaLPzQD5rGOeliWGw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">lacklustre performance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> is likely because AI is simply attracting all the investor attention. Speaking of Coinbase, the US\u2019 largest <span>crypto<\/span> exchange <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GergelyOrosz\/status\/2052646743410405383\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">was down<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> for over 6 hours on Friday morning because of an AWS outage. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The next <span>crypto<\/span> arms race may be tradfi pricing. A big theme this week was traditional finance entering <span>crypto<\/span> with the age-old strategy of undercutting everyone on price.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Bloomberg\u2019s ETF expert Eric Balchunas highlighted that Morgan Stanley is rolling out <span>crypto<\/span> trading via ETrade with fees<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EricBalchunas\/status\/2052038574690763216?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">below Schwab<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">, which had already undercut Coinbase. Consumer wins, obviously. But it is also a reminder that once <span>crypto<\/span> gets big enough to matter, the incumbents bring their usual weapons. \u201cShots fired,\u201d said Balchunas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">That creates pressure up and down the stack. It pressures exchange fees, it pressures narrative premiums, and it pressures the idea that crypto-native firms automatically deserve higher take rates just because they were early.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The KelpDAO and LayerZero saga kept bleeding into new corners of the market this week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Bartek Kiepuszewski\u2019s blunt takeaway was to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/bkiepuszewski\/status\/2051907503957430326?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">avoid multisig bridges<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> altogether and stick to canonical assets and intent protocols. That is probably where the industry is heading anyway: less trust in complex bridge setups, more preference for the simplest credible path.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">At the same time, lawyers for DPRK victims are now reportedly trying to get the <span>ETH<\/span> that Arbitrum managed to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/i\/status\/2050654814963380277\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">freeze from the hack<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">, which suggests that once a chain or ecosystem proves it can freeze funds under pressure, the legal and political demands to do so will only grow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> <span>Crypto<\/span> has long liked to imagine a clean distinction between code and law. But once funds are freezable, that distinction gets messy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Outside the core BTC-ETH- <span>stablecoin<\/span> axis, the week also showed how quickly adjacent market structures are maturing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Kalshi is now valued at<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/07\/business\/dealbook\/kalshi-fundraise-22-billion.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight:400\">$22 billion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\">, which says a lot about the market\u2019s appetite for event trading as a durable financial category. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bullish.com\/eu\/news-insights\/bullish-to-acquire-equiniti-from-siris-in-4-2-billion-transaction-creating-the-global-transfer-agent-for-tokenized-securities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Bullish is buying<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> transfer agent Equiniti in a $4.2 billion deal as part of the push toward tokenized stocks. That helps explain why <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/a-quick-introduction-to-crypto\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">crypto<\/a> attention feels so fragmented.
