The incident took place last July. The group later forced him to his home, detained him, assaulted him, and pressured him to access financial accounts, including his Coinbase account. As the attackers attempted to transfer assets away from the platform, Coinbase\u2019s internal monitoring systems identified activity suggesting the customer was under duress and escalated the situation as an emergency. Investigators later traced \u00a31,900 (approximately $2,548) in <span>crypto<\/span>, along with additional fiat funds, across addresses and accounts.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Armstrong, Coinbase\u2019s chief executive officer, commented on X:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOur investigations team identified an on-going crime, and used <span>blockchain<\/span> forensics to trace the criminals, leading to five convictions.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The attempted transfer was identified by Coinbase\u2019s monitoring systems while the incident was still unfolding.
