The company, which manages over 500k hectares of land in Brazil, Argentina, and other countries in Latam, is launching a project to power a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/what-is-bitcoin-mining\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bitcoin mining<\/a> farm with energy obtained from sugarcane.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/livecoins.com.br\/mineracao-de-bitcoin-movida-a-energia-de-cana-de-acucar-ganha-forca-no-mato-grosso-do-sul-com-companhia-investida-pela-tether-que-atua-no-brasil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">local media<\/a>, Matheus Lechuga, project manager at Adecoagro, presented this initiative as part of the \u201cRoots of the Future\u201d agenda, demonstrating the company\u2019s future operations in Mato Grosso do Sul.<\/p>\n<p>He stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOur data center project aims to validate our entire structure and try to apply new technological developments. Today, the project focuses on a structure geared towards <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/what-is-bitcoin-mining\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bitcoin mining<\/a>, using clean energy from sugarcane.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lechuga stressed that the project aims to generate 10 MW to power 1,280 mining rigs, targeting July 1st as the launch date. <strong>\u201cThe project\u2019s goal is to achieve energy efficiency,\u201d<\/strong> he highlighted.<\/p>\n<p>Bagasse, a byproduct of the sugarcane refining process, can be used as a biofuel due to its high fibrous content. Burning sugarcane releases less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than the carbon absorbed by the plant when grown. This means that the whole cycle is carbon-neutral at worst, or even better.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first initiative to combine Tether\u2019s digital origins with Adecoagro\u2019s agricultural strengths to maximize the use of available resources and increase the company\u2019s balance sheet.
