This FBI will find you, and we will bring you to justice!\u201d he concluded.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cPig butchering\u201d<\/strong> scams, the threat Patel refers to, involve getting close to unsuspecting users online and gaining their trust to induce them to deposit large sums of <span>cryptocurrency<\/span> in alleged investment platforms or to help romantic interests. Due to their characteristics, these crimes prey on the elderly and teenagers, who are unaware of the social tactics criminals use to this end.<\/p>\n<p>Patel\u2019s fight against pig butchering scams has already yielded results. In May, the FBI <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/dojs-record-127271-btc-seizure-resurfaces-amid-scam-crackdown\/\">reported<\/a> that it had seized $8 billion in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/a-quick-introduction-to-crypto\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cryptocurrency<\/a> in <strong>\u201cOperation Blackout,\u201d<\/strong> an operation that targeted scam centres in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, which are also linked to human trafficking crimes.<\/p>\n<p>As part of this operation, over 127,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/price\/bitcoin\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BTC<\/a> were seized and over 300 people were arrested across Cambodia, Dubai, and Thailand, aided by Elon Musk\u2019s Starlink.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI has been running efforts to track and battle this kind of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/a-quick-introduction-to-crypto\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">crypto<\/a> crime since 2024, when it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/how-we-can-help-you\/victim-services\/national-crimes-and-victim-resources\/operation-level-up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">launched<\/a> \u201cOperation Level Up\u201d and began identifying victims of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/a-quick-introduction-to-crypto\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">crypto<\/a> fraud and notifying them of their involvement in these schemes.<\/p>\n<p>As of December 2025, over 8,000 victims have been notified, with estimated savings reaching over $500 million.
