Exposure comes through passive multi-asset funds run by major hedge funds that hold various <span>cryptocurrencies<\/span>. The fund has not disclosed which tokens those products include.<\/p>\n<h2>Currency Risk Drives the Decision<\/h2>\n<p>Fund officials say the move is about protecting against a weaker yen and a potentially less dominant dollar, not chasing short-term gains. The fund is cutting its yen exposure from 80% to 70% in FY2026, while adding 10% to developed market currencies and putting roughly 5% toward emerging market currencies, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/tether-phases-out-ausdt-stablecoin-refocuses-on-xaut-gold-token\/\">gold<\/a>, and <span>crypto<\/span> combined.<\/p>\n<p>Aiyu Kiguchi, the fund\u2019s executive director of operations, said the dollar\u2019s nature as a base currency may be weakening. <span>Crypto<\/span> entered the mix because of its low correlation to the dollar index, officials said, framing it as a hedge against currency depreciation rather than a price bet.<\/p>\n<p>The fund spent six years researching alternative assets before reaching this point. Officials concluded that <span>crypto<\/span> markets have matured, with deeper <span>liquidity<\/span> and a broader base of investors than in years past.<\/p>\n<h2>Strong Funding Cushions the Bet<\/h2>\n<p>The fund\u2019s financial position supports the move. Japan\u2019s House of Representatives passed a bill on June 11 that would move <span>crypto<\/span> oversight from the Payment Services Act to the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, a shift that could open the door to <span>crypto<\/span> ETFs. The Osaka Exchange has also targeted a 2028 launch for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/price\/bitcoin\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bitcoin<\/a> futures, and major brokerages including SBI, Rakuten, Nomura, and Daiwa are preparing crypto-inclusive investment trusts.<\/p>\n<h2>What This Means for Traders<\/h2>\n<p>At $1.36 million, the allocation is too small to move <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/a-quick-introduction-to-crypto\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">crypto<\/a> prices on its own.
