USST runs on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stbl.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">STBL<\/a>\u2018s <span>Stablecoin<\/span> 2.0 infrastructure and gives institutional holders of tokenized treasuries a way to access <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/unlocking-the-future-your-fun-guide-to-decentralized-finance-and-web3\/\">decentralized finance (DeFi)<\/a> <span>liquidity<\/span> without giving up their yield-bearing positions.<\/p>\n<h2>How USST Works<\/h2>\n<p>Market participants deposit qualifying real-world assets ( <span>RWAs<\/span>), such as tokenized treasuries or money market funds, to mint USST. The protocol supports settlement, collateral mobility, and cross-border payments.<\/p>\n<p>Initial minting will run on eligible tokenized treasury collateral, starting with USDY. STBL says it plans to add <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/franklin-templeton-builds-active-crypto-arm-to-chase-institutional-money\/\">Franklin Templeton<\/a>\u2018s BENJI as a second collateral option, part of a broader effort to widen the pool of assets institutions can use to back the <span>stablecoin<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2>A Trade-Off Institutions Have Faced<\/h2>\n<p>Institutional investors holding tokenized treasuries and money market funds have long faced a choice. They could keep that exposure or convert it into <span>liquidity<\/span> for <span>DeFi<\/span> activity. STBL says USST removes that choice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstitutional investors increasingly hold tokenized treasuries and money market funds, but they still face a trade-off between maintaining <span>DeFi<\/span> exposure and accessing <span>liquidity<\/span>,\u201d Dr. Avtar Sehra, CEO and co-founder of STBL, remarked on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Sehra added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cUSST removes that trade-off.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>STBL was co-founded by Sehra and Reeve Collins, who also founded Tether. Sehra previously founded Nivaura and Kaio.<\/p>\n<h2>Stellar\u2019s Role in the RWA Push<\/h2>\n<p>Stellar has positioned itself as infrastructure for real-world asset issuance and payments, processing billions of operations since launch. The Stellar Development Foundation frames the USST integration as part of that broader push.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs tokenized real-world assets continue to gain momentum, institutions are looking for infrastructure that can support <span>liquidity<\/span>, settlement, and utility,\u201d said Raja Chakravorti, chief business officer of the Stellar Development Foundation.<\/p>\n<h2>What This Means for Traders and Investors<\/h2>\n<p>For institutional players already holding tokenized treasuries, USST offers a route into onchain <span>liquidity<\/span> without exiting yield-generating positions. That matters for asset managers weighing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/what-is-defi-decentralized-finance\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DeFi<\/a> participation against the returns they already collect from treasury exposure.<\/p>\n<p>STBL\u2019s dual token architecture also underpins other branded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/what-are-stablecoins\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stablecoins<\/a>, including deployments on X-Layer, where USST serves as a reserve asset. The company says it will keep expanding the range of eligible collateral over time, opening the door to more asset issuers and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/what-are-real-world-assets-rwa\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RWA<\/a> providers joining the network.<\/p>\n<p>No launch date has been set for the BENJI collateral integration.
