(Nasdaq: MSTR) sold 3,588 <span>bitcoin<\/span>, raising about $216.3 million, the company announced on July 6. It said proceeds funded preferred dividends and reserve needs under its <span>BTC<\/span> Monetization Program.<\/p>\n<p>After the sale, Strategy held 843,775 <span>BTC<\/span> with an aggregate purchase price of about $59.08 billion. As of this writing, <span>BTC<\/span> trades near $63,478, below Strategy\u2019s average purchase price of about $75,476.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMSTR spent the last two weeks selling <span>bitcoin<\/span>. The average price on 3,588 <span>bitcoin<\/span> sold was $60,196.73,\u201d economist and <span>gold<\/span> advocate Peter Schiff wrote on X July 6, adding:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cGiven MSTR\u2019s average cost, that\u2019s a realized loss of about $15K per <span>bitcoin<\/span>, or about $54 million. With over 840K <span>bitcoin<\/span> left to sell, the total losses will be much greater.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Strategy\u2019s <span>Bitcoin<\/span> Monetization Program is a capital management plan that allows, but does not require, the company to sell <span>bitcoin<\/span> to raise cash for reserves, dividends, debt reduction, share buybacks, and other corporate purposes.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Schiff Says Saylor\u2019s Treasury Model Now Cuts Both Ways<\/h2>\n<p>Schiff argued that Strategy has shifted from raising capital to accumulate <span>bitcoin<\/span> to selling it to cover obligations. According to Schiff, the framework could <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/strategy-could-sell-3-25-billion-in-bitcoin-under-new-plan-peter-schiff-warns\/\">allow<\/a> up to $3.25 billion in <span>bitcoin<\/span> sales, including $1.25 billion for reserves and $2 billion for buybacks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMSTR now has a completely different business model,\u201d the <span>gold<\/span> advocate wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cInstead of selling common and preferred stock and issuing debt to buy <span>bitcoin<\/span>, the new strategy is to sell <span>bitcoin<\/span> to pay interest and dividends, pay off debt, buy back shares it sold, and hope that <span>bitcoin<\/span>\u2019s price goes way up.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>What Analysts Are Watching Before Strategy\u2019s Next Move<\/h2>\n<p>Coin Bureau CEO Nic Puckrin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestreet.com\/crypto\/markets\/coin-bureau-ceo-sends-stark-warning-on-michael-saylors-bitcoin-strategy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> Strategy is in \u201ca very difficult position\u201d due to STRC dividend obligations. He does not expect forced liquidations, but warned even small sales could hurt sentiment if <span>bitcoin<\/span> stays weak.<\/p>\n<p>Strategy\u2019s cash reserve covers about 17 months of dividends, while analysts have suggested 24 to 36 months for stability. Michael Saylor <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/strategy-could-sell-3-25-billion-in-bitcoin-under-new-plan-peter-schiff-warns\/\">defended<\/a> the policy as <span>liquidity<\/span> management, citing $2.55 billion in USD reserves and $1.25 billion in monetization capacity, or 25.9 months of coverage.<\/p>\n<p>Not all analysts view the policy negatively. Bitfinex analysts <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/strategys-bitcoin-sale-authorization-reduces-risk-of-forced-btc-selling-analysts-say\/\">explained<\/a> Strategy\u2019s authorization to sell up to $1.25 billion in <span>bitcoin<\/span> could reduce forced-selling risk by adding <span>liquidity<\/span> during stress. Future filings will show whether Strategy sells more <span>bitcoin<\/span>, raises capital, or resumes accumulation.<\/p>\n<p>Zach Pandl, head of research at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/a-quick-introduction-to-crypto\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">crypto<\/a> asset manager Grayscale, wrote on X on July 6 after Saylor announced Strategy\u2019s 3,588 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/price\/bitcoin\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BTC<\/a> sale:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIn my view, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/price\/bitcoin\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BTC<\/a> sales by Strategy are needed to restore confidence in STRC and its structure in general.
