Strategy sold the coins between June 29 and July 5 at an average price near $60,000.

Rather than leaving the proceeds available for general spending, Strategy plans to use the cash for preferred stock dividends and to replenish its USD reserve after those payments.

The transaction puts the new BTC Monetization Program into action only days after its introduction. The framework allows Strategy to sell Bitcoin when management considers that option better than issuing more common shares.

“This framework is designed to strengthen credit quality and enable the Company to reduce expected preferred stock dividend payments when accretive.

This framework also sets out how we plan to use our capital management toolkit while maintaining our commitment to long-term Bitcoin exposure.”

Strategy can also use future Bitcoin sales to cover debt interest or fund share and preferred security repurchases. Any use outside the approved purposes would need further board approval.

Bitcoin Policy Becomes More Flexible

Strategy built its market identity around constant Bitcoin purchases, but its growing dividend and interest costs now require more active cash management.

The company expects about $1.76 billion in annual preferred dividends and debt interest. Its $2.55 billion USD reserve covers roughly 17.4 months of those payments. When combined with the approved Bitcoin sale capacity, liquidity coverage rises to about 25.9 months.

After the sale, Strategy held 843,775 BTC acquired for around $63.69 billion, equal to an average cost of $75,476 per coin. The remaining portfolio had a market value close to $53.88 billion based on the disclosed period value.

Strategy said it remains committed to long term Bitcoin exposure. However, the new policy ends the idea that every coin must remain untouched when dividends, interest payments or discounted securities create another use for capital.

Source link

(Originally posted on : Crypto News – iGaming.org ) Strategy has started using its Bitcoin reserve as a source of cash, selling 3,588 BTC for about $216 million to support preferred stock payments.
