Issued by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the licence allows regulated firms to provide investment services and deal in financial instruments, including equities and derivatives, under rules designed to protect consumers and maintain market integrity. The approval expands Coinbase beyond <span>crypto<\/span> services.<\/p>\n<p>The authorization sits within Coinbase\u2019s UK entity alongside its Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license and <span>crypto<\/span> registration. We think that era is ending.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The company said UK users will gain access to <span>stablecoin<\/span> payments, savings, borrowing, <span>crypto<\/span>, derivatives, and equities on Coinbase, with tokenised real-world assets planned. Coinbase recently launched UK savings and borrowing products, and the new authorisation marks the next phase of its expansion.<\/p>\n<h2>What Still Needs to Happen<\/h2>\n<p>Coinbase said Financial Conduct Authority research found about 7 million UK adults already hold <span>crypto<\/span>. It also said a quarter of non-holders would be more likely to participate if the sector were properly regulated. Coinbase pointed to October 2027, when the UK\u2019s full <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/a-quick-introduction-to-crypto\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">crypto<\/a> regime is expected to take effect.<\/p>\n<p>The approval gives Coinbase room to expand before those rules arrive. The remaining question is how quickly UK users will gain access to the new products and how regulators shape the next stage of digital finance. Its long-term impact will depend on execution, adoption, and the final regulatory framework.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the MiFID investment services licence, Coinbase holds two additional FCA approvals. Its <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/coinbase-secures-uk-approval-unlocking-ambitious-expansion-plans-for-mass-adoption\/\">virtual asset service provider<\/a> (VASP) registration, granted in February 2025, permits crypto-to- <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/a-quick-introduction-to-crypto\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">crypto<\/a> and fiat-to- <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/a-quick-introduction-to-crypto\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">crypto<\/a> exchange services for UK residents.
