The group allegedly converted funds across several blockchains through cross chain swaps.<\/p>\n<p>A cross chain swap exchanges one cryptocurrency for another on a different blockchain. Criminal groups often use repeated swaps to create a longer and less direct transaction trail. However, blockchain records can still help investigators follow funds between wallets and services.<\/p>\n<p>Operation First Light ran from January through April and covered romance scams, investment fraud, impersonation schemes and other forms of social engineering. Police analysed 152,808 cases, blocked 31,014 bank accounts and identified 15,606 suspects.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSocial engineering scams continue to pose a significant threat to our society. Criminal syndicates exploit human psychology to manipulate their targets, and no nation can stay safe unless all countries are equipped and committed to jointly fighting back.
