He stated <a href=\"https:\/\/live.theasianbanker.com\/video\/tether-s-paolo-ardoino-says-50-60-of-usdt-is-cross-border-trade-and-payments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recently<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>50-60% of <span>USDT<\/span> is cross-border trade and payments.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The aforementioned wallet growth has a balance-sheet echo as well, given <span>USDT<\/span>\u2019s market capitalization pushed toward $190 billion this year after Tether <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/tether-mints-2-billion-usdt-ethereum-three-days\/\">minted 2 billion<\/a> <span>USDT<\/span> batches on Ethereum. That resulted in the <span>stablecoin<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/tether-usdt-flips-ether-market-cap-186-billion\/\">briefly flipping<\/a> ether to become the second-largest <span>cryptocurrency<\/span> by market value, reaching about $186.06 billion against ether\u2019s $185.66 billion before changing positions.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s finances have kept pace and an attestation by accounting firm BDO showed Tether generated about $1.04 billion in <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/paolo-ardoino-drives-1-04b-profit-for-tether-as-reserves-climb-to-8-23b-in-q1\/\">net profit<\/a> for the quarter ending March 31, 2026, with excess reserves climbing to a record $8.23 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The firm has also kept stacking <span>bitcoin<\/span>, moving 951 <span>BTC<\/span> into its dedicated reserve address in April to bring <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/tether-adds-951-bitcoin-worth-70-5m-to-reserve-holdings-reach-97141-btc\/\">holdings to 97,141<\/a> <span>BTC<\/span> (making it one of the largest corporate <span>bitcoin<\/span> treasuries in existence).<\/p>\n<h2>A Half-Billion-User Footprint<\/h2>\n<p>Tether has been building consumer rails to match the raw wallet numbers. In April, the company launched its <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/tether-launches-consumer-wallet-app-with-human-readable-addresses-and-no-gas-tokens\/\">consumer wallet app<\/a>, tether.wallet, a self-custodial application with human-readable addresses and no <span>gas<\/span> tokens, aimed at the token\u2019s hundreds of millions of users.<\/p>\n<p>Fortune also reported earlier in the year that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/a-quick-introduction-to-crypto\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">crypto<\/a> giant now commands <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/article\/tether-ceo-paolo-ardoino-crypto-firm-stabelcoins-howard-lutnick-usdt-cantor-fitzgerald\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$187 billion<\/a> in assets and is planning a significant U.S. expansion under Ardoino, including a dollar <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/what-are-stablecoins\/\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stablecoin<\/a> tailored for the American market.<\/p>\n<p>All of this growth, however, is not without its caveats, and wallet counts are not unique individuals, as one person can hold many addresses.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, if Ardoino\u2019s pace holds, <a href=\"https:\/\/buy.bitcoin.com\/?utm_source=News\" class=\"lar_link lar_link_outgoing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">USDT<\/a> would add roughly 120 million wallets over the next 12 months, more than the population of Japan.
