The platform will process fund transactions and maintain records showing who owns each share. BNY will keep its traditional system running alongside the new service, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/7b1197a5-e59a-4beb-ab83-e800e6ebc527?syn-25a6b1a6=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">report by the Financial Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The move carries significant weight. <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/bny-gives-institutions-power-to-mint-and-burn-usdc-directly-from-custody\/\">BNY oversees more than $59 trillion<\/a> in assets under custody and administration. Its transfer agency operation alone services about $8.6 trillion across 7.6 million investor accounts.<\/p>\n<h2>Tokenized Funds Gain Institutional Infrastructure<\/h2>\n<p>Transfer agents sit behind fund subscriptions, redemptions and ownership records. These processes often require several parties to maintain and reconcile separate databases.<\/p>\n<p>BNY\u2019s blockchain platform is designed to create a shared record of ownership. That could reduce duplication, shorten settlement times and support markets that operate around the clock.<\/p>\n<p>Carolyn Weinberg, BNY\u2019s chief product and innovation officer, said the technology could transform how financial markets process transactions. She described the project as bringing the records behind fund activity onchain.<\/p>\n<p>Baillie Gifford is using the digital transfer agent for what it calls the UK\u2019s first fully native, regulated tokenized fund. The Edinburgh-based investment firm manages about $262 billion (\u00a3197 billion).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/blackrock-backs-the-clarity-act-congress-is-running-out-of-time-to-pass-it\/\">Blackrock<\/a> and Dreyfus, BNY\u2019s money-market fund and cash-management business, are also expected to use the service for planned products.<\/p>\n<h2>BNY Chooses Evolution Over Disruption<\/h2>\n<p>The launch reflects Wall Street\u2019s growing interest in tokenization.
