href=\"https:\/\/solscan.io\/account\/7VHUFJHWu2CuExkJcJrzhQPJ2oygupTWkL2A2For4BmE?activity_type=ACTIVITY_SPL_MINT&amp;exclude_amount_zero=true&amp;remove_spam=false&amp;page_size=100#transfers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">revealed the roughly 5 billion USDC mint<\/a> earlier today, with analysts noting that the issuance is just one of many billion-dollar mints that have taken place this year.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>To elaborate, earlier in April, Circle minted a record 3.25 billion USDC on Solana in <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/circle-mints-500-million-usdc-solana-weekly-issuance\/\">seperate tranches<\/a>, its biggest weekly issuance of 2026 at the time, and followed that with a 1.25 billion USDC mint on Solana in the week of August 20, including 250 million in a single day.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, Solana\u2019s share of total USDC supply has climbed past 10% in 2026, even as Ethereum still holds roughly two-thirds of USDC in circulation.<\/p>\n<h2>Closing the Gap With Tether, Slowly<\/h2>\n<p>USDC\u2019s circulating supply stood at about $74 billion, still less than half of Tether\u2019s $183.1 billion market cap, with the two stablecoins together <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/learning-insights\/stablecoin-depegs-explained\/\">accounting for around 83% of a carried roughly 70% of adjusted stablecoin transaction volume in the first half of the year despite running on a fraction of the supply.<\/p>\n<h2>Timing Is Everything<\/h2>\n<p>The latest print comes just as Circle has taken on a new role as technical deployer for USDC on Hyperliquid, the derivatives exchange that <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/WuBlockchain\/status\/2092504986022502571\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">activated its \u201cAQAv2\u201d upgrade<\/a> today to route reserve yield on roughly $5 billion of USDC sitting on its platform into buybacks of its HYPE token.<\/p>\n<p>Coinbase became Hyperliquid\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/coinbase-wins-usdc-treasury-deployer-seat-on-hyperliquid-circle-handles-cross-chain-infrastructure\/\">official USDC treasury deployer<\/a> and Circle its technical infrastructure partner back in May, after Hyperliquid\u2019s own USDH stablecoin was set to sunset in favor of USDC. That arrangement gives Circle a direct incentive to keep fresh USDC flowing toward platforms like Hyperliquid, since every dollar parked there as reserve now generates yield Circle\u2019s partners can point to as a growth story, not just a balance-sheet number.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, Circle\u2019s next earnings disclosures should show whether this week\u2019s issuance was a one-off spike or not.
