Market data showed the cryptocurrency appeared to be on <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/market-updates\/bulls-reload-for-another-assault-on-81k-as-bitcoins-price-rises\/\">course to test the $80,000 resistance<\/a> again after easily reclaiming $79,000 Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p> <iframe src=\"https:\/\/markets.bitcoin.com\/crypto\/bitcoin\/embed\" width=\"100%\" style=\"max-height:500px;height:500px;border:none;overflow:hidden;border-radius:4px\" scrolling=\"no\" title=\"bitcoin market data\"><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<p>However, soon after nearly tapping $79,400, the price spiraled downward, reaching an intraday low of $77,024 just before 8 p.m. EST. Afterward, the cryptocurrency began a slow climb toward $78,000, a mark it reclaimed at 1:25 a.m. EST Monday. The recovery continued until the price reached $78,750, at which point momentum was lost again as it dropped back below $78,000.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the recovery was swift this time, taking just over 30 minutes to reclaim $78,500. As of 12 p.m., the price hovered just below $78,600, reflecting a 0.6% decline.<\/p>\n<p>While the marginal loss helped drag bitcoin\u2019s market capitalization to $1.57 trillion, it did little to alter the cryptocurrency\u2019s overall performance in August. With just a few hours left in the month, bitcoin\u2019s near-flat price action Monday meant it remained on course to end August with 30-day gains of just under 25%\u2014one of its best performances in 2026 so far. Furthermore, August gains have significantly helped trim overall 2026 losses from near 30% at the end of July to just over 10%.<\/p>\n<p>As one of the few 24\/7 global markets, bitcoin\u2019s price dropped sharply as <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CENTCOM\/status\/2094228119079067852\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports of renewed clashes<\/a> between U.S. and Iranian forces emerged after a monthlong lull. The escalation also<a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/featured\/us-strikes-iran-brent-cracks-90-as-hormuz-risk-explodes-again\/\"> drove oil prices higher<\/a> on fears that the escalation will further disrupt oil traffic, result in damage to Gulf infrastructure and oil tankers. Though the skirmish was brief, it underscored bitcoin\u2019s vulnerability to geopolitical shocks.<\/p>\n<p>While some analysts expect geopolitical friction to linger into September, others\u2014such as Utkarsh Ahuja, founder and managing partner at Moon Pursuit Capital\u2014believe market liquidity will be the stronger driver. Though he acknowledges that other factors will impact bitcoin price over time, Ahuja argues the critical question for late 2026 is how liquidity conditions unfold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMonetary policy, inflation, global money supply, credit creation and financial conditions are becoming increasingly important to the direction of risk assets. Crypto sits particularly close to that intersection because it trades globally, around the clock, and tends to respond quickly to changes in liquidity and risk appetite,\u201d Ahuja said, adding that he would not be surprised to see another period of bitcoin price volatility or consolidation in September.<\/p>\n<p>With September just hours away, Ahuja said he will be watching global liquidity, inflation, the<a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/finance\/fedwatch-turns-hawkish-with-57-odds-of-september-rate-increase\/\"> Federal Reserve\u2019s reaction function<\/a>, the direction of the dollar and real yields, positioning and leverage across crypto markets, and institutional flows into digital assets. Although he anticipates a reset in September, Ahuja said the setup heading into October and the fourth quarter is becoming increasingly interesting.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the immediate market cycle, he noted he will monitor competition between jurisdictions to build regulated digital-asset financial infrastructure, as well as the accelerating need for governments, financial institutions and
