This weekend, while traditional finance (TradFi) rails were closed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbs.com\/newsroom\/DBS_and_Citi_partner_to_enable_instant_247_cross_border_USD_payments_with_tokenised_deposits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Citi and DBS made a USD payment<\/a> with the Swift blockchain using tokenized deposits. While the TradFi settlement period is typically two days, the transaction was settled in \u201cminutes,\u201d according to the DBS release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a global digital economy that never sleeps, businesses need to move money more quickly and efficiently across borders to stay competitive,\u201d Rachel Chew, Group Chief Operating Officer and Co-Head of Digital Assets, Global Transaction Services, DBS, remarked. \u201cSwift Digital Ledger is bridging traditional banking infrastructures with emerging digital networks to enable deeper interoperability that benefits clients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DBS executive added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to be working with Citi to demonstrate how tokenised money is moving from experimentation to real-world adoption \u2013 laying the foundations for a more connected, nimble and always-on global financial system.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Swift Enlists 17 Banks as Tokenized Money Moves Into the Real World<\/h2>\n<p>The news follows the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swift.com\/news-events\/press-releases\/swifts-blockchain-ledger-ready-use-17-banks-set-pioneer-tokenised-cross-border-payments-trusted-global-infrastructure#:~:text=Swift%20moves%20from%20concept%20to%20activation%20of,such%20as%20programmable%20money%20and%20agentic%20commerce.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announcement from Swift<\/a> regarding the Swift Digital Ledger being open for use in July. The company said that \u201c17 banks from six continents\u201d were participating in using the blockchain pilot.
