An unauthorized party used an email address on a legitimate government agency domain to send information requests that Revolut initially treated as genuine.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cRevolut recently identified a sophisticated external impersonation scam where an unauthorised third party utilised a legitimate government agency domain email to submit fraudulent requests for information,\u201d<\/em> a Revolut spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>Customer data potentially handed over included birth dates, postal addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and copies of identity documents. Verification selfies, bank statements and transaction histories may also have been included.<\/p>\n<p>Revolut blocked the email address after discovering the fraud and contacted the government agency, law enforcement, data protection authorities and financial regulators.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cRevolut systems and customer funds are unaffected,\u201d<\/em> the company said.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Data Incident Comes During US Banking Expansion<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The disclosure comes as Revolut grows beyond its European banking base.<\/p>\n<p>Revolut serves more than 80 million customers worldwide. On September 3, the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted conditional approval for a Revolut national bank charter.
