Hussein Zangana, the XRP Ledger Foundation community director known as Vet on X, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Vet_X0\/status\/2099317473845874735\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">flagged the record<\/a> earlier today while data trackers reported 2,713 transactions in a single ledger on Sunday morning, and hours later, a 2,768-transaction ledger as a fresh high.<\/p>\n<p>A Bitcoin.com News scan of 7,600 consecutive ledgers, from 18:00 UTC on Sept. 13 to 02:00 UTC on Sept. 14, found 638,801 transactions, an average of about 84 per ledger. Only 43 of those ledgers topped 2,000 transactions, and only the record ledger topped 2,800.<\/p>\n<h2>Who Actually Filled the Ledger?<\/h2>\n<p>Twenty accounts sent exactly 100 transactions each, 2,000 in all, and every one was a payment of 1 drop, the smallest unit of XRP at one millionth of a coin. Combined, those payments moved 0.002 XRP, less than a cent at XRP\u2019s current $1.37 price. Each paid a 20-drop fee, so the batch burned about 0.04 XRP, roughly five cents.<\/p>\n<p>The rest was more varied:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>458 OfferCreate orders on the XRPL\u2019s built-in decentralized exchange (DEX)<\/li>\n<li>229 ticket creations<\/li>\n<li>74 check cashes<\/li>\n<li>22 trust line changes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At least 890 transactions failed with \u201ctec\u201d result codes, mostly payments whose paths ran dry and fill-or-kill orders that could not be filled. Under XRPL rules, a <a href=\"https:\/\/xrpl.org\/docs\/references\/protocol\/transactions\/transaction-results\/tec-codes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tec failure<\/a> still \u201cdestroys the XRP paid as a transaction cost,\u201d so those attempts padded the record while delivering nothing. Zangana wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I don\u2019t know why this person is doing these transactions but looks like throughput testing probably. Simple XRP payments are very low load on the network.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Coverage of the earlier record described a similar pattern of 1-drop transactions circulating among 20 accounts.<\/p>\n<p>A sliver of the ledger pointed somewhere more interesting as eight transactions carried memos from t54 labs\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/xrpl.org\/docs\/agents\/agentic-payments-x402\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">x402 facilitator<\/a>, the tool that lets artificial intelligence (AI) agents pay for services with XRP and RLUSD. The network passed <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/xrp-ledger-hits-1-million-ai-agent-transactions-as-ripple-builds-ai-spending-infrastructure\/\">1 million AI agent transactions<\/a> back in July.<\/p>\n<h2>Why the Ledger Didn\u2019t Choke<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cOur blocks are dynamic in size limits and not fixed like Bitcoin,\u201d Zangana <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Vet_X0\/status\/2099317473845874735\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">added in the same post<\/a>. XRPL\u2019s own documentation says a server \u201cincreases the soft limit if the current ledger contained more transactions than the soft limit, and decreases the soft limit if the consensus process takes more than 5 seconds.\u201d Below that limit, transactions pay the 10-drop reference cost. Above it, the open ledger cost climbs exponentially.<\/p>\n<p>That self-adjusting ceiling is why a 3,254-transaction ledger did not trigger a fee spike. Early Monday, the network\u2019s expected ledger size, as reported by the fee method, sat at 3,082 transactions, and the open ledger fee was still the 10-drop minimum.<\/p>\n<p>For scale, Bitcoin <a href=\"https:\/\/mempool.space\/block\/000000000000000000019bfe71c8e803e981ff884af119f8abe80f62589a9d27\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">block 966,909<\/a>, mined at 03:52 UTC on Monday, carried 6,551 transactions. XRPL ledgers close in seconds, with the earlier record ledger closing in 3.8 seconds.<\/p>\n<h2>XRP\u2019s Price Didn\u2019t Notice<\/h2>\n<p>The record landed in a quiet market with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/price\/xrp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">XRP trading near $1.37<\/a>, up 0.6% over 24 hours, while bitcoin\u2019s price hovered around $77,517. Bitcoin.com News noted last week that XRP had been moving in <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/market-updates\/bitcoin-price-holds-near-80k-as-xrp-eyes-1-50-ahead-of-sept-11-test\/\">near-perfect correlation<\/a> with bitcoin, and a ledger stuffed with 1-drop payments did nothing to break that link.<\/p>\n<p>Daily XRPL transactions stayed above 2 million through early September, peaking at 2.572 million on Sept. 3. Earlier this month, Bitcoin.com News reported that daily transactions <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/market-updates\/xrp-price-slides-27-in-2026-as-xrpl-stablecoins-tokenization-surge\/\">rose
