Last month, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/featured\/bitcoin-early-adopters-stir-as-6427-btc-worth-500m-moves-in-august\/\">Bitcoin.com News reported<\/a> that 6,427.59 BTC, valued at more than half a billion U.S. dollars, moved for the first time in years.<\/p>\n<p>While the first few days of September started off slow, the month has now witnessed 3,790 sleeping bitcoins from wallets created between 2010 and 2017 wake up from slumber, <a href=\"https:\/\/btcparser.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to btcparser.com stats<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_847636\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-847636\" style=\"width:1442px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-847636\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Data source: Btcparser.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The wallet that moved today was first created on Sept. 27, 2013, making the address nearly 13 years old. Bitcoin\u2019s price was around $128 per coin on that day, which means the 113 BTC was valued at $14,464, compared with today\u2019s $8.8 million. This specific transfer and several others this month have pushed September\u2019s numbers a lot higher.<\/p>\n<h2>Weekends Dominate the Vintage Bitcoin Moves<\/h2>\n<p>The biggest spend so far this month was derived from a wallet first created on July 9, 2016. It shifted a third of the month\u2019s volume of dormant BTC moves so far by <a href=\"https:\/\/btcparser.com\/?a=1KjjyBY36xDfaNZ7KqJxc1sQ9APESCXH21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shifting 1,260.776 BTC on Sept. 6<\/a>. Across the month\u2019s whole data set, BTC dormancy averaged around 13 years. <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/crypto-news\/dormant-bitcoin-wallets-continue-to-stir-as-50m-moves-in-september\/\">The dormant spending<\/a> shows weekend-heavy activity, meaning 62% happened on Saturdays and Sundays.<\/p>\n<p>The weekend concentration of these awakenings suggests these movements are more likely deliberate than reactions to spontaneous market moves. Although higher bitcoin prices do help, that, too, may have swayed these vintage coin movements.
