When BABYDOGE first launched, X owner Elon Musk posted about the project on July 1, 2021. He wrote: \u201cBaby Doge, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, Baby Doge, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, Baby Doge, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, Baby Doge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And while that seems like a nothing burger, the meme coin jumped 228.3% in value the day <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/elon-musk-tweet-sends-new-baby-doge-coin-soaring-meme-tokens-daily-gains-jump-228\/\">Bitcoin.com News reported on it<\/a>. Today is a different story, as the project is down 94% below its all-time price high, which it reached on Dec. 9, 2024. Its market cap stands at $66.48 million, and it is the 307th largest by market valuation, amongst all the other crypto assets.<\/p>\n<p>Limewire has a very well known history, and like Napster, it was a super popular peer-to-peer file sharing during the early 2000s before legal battles forced it offline. In 2022, after BABYDOGE launched, Limewire was acquired by two individuals known as the Zehetmayr brothers (Julian and Paul). The Limewire team <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/defunct-file-sharing-platform-limewire-plans-a-comeback-nft-marketplace-and-token-on-horizon\/\">launched a non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace<\/a> and crypto asset under the ticker LMWR.<\/p>\n<p>The latest announcement states that the Zehetmayr brothers are \u201cofficially handing over the wheel\u201d to Abel Czupor and Baby Doge. Limewire\u2019s \u201cnext chapter is about taking that foundation to a much larger audience and community \u2013 and we believe Abel and Baby Doge are well positioned to do exactly that. We\u2019re proud of what we\u2019ve built and excited to see where they take Limewire next,\u201d the Zehetmayr brothers wrote.<\/p>\n<h2>Limewire Eyes AI and a Creator-Led Future<\/h2>\n<p>The details on what comes next are not really super clear. <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/baby-doge-sheds-over-40-this-week-despite-nascar-debut-and-animal-shelter-donation\/\">Baby Doge<\/a> and Czupor claims that the internet today \u201cis broken\u201d and that \u201cTech giants have monopolized data.\u201d Czupor envisions Limewire as a decentralized sanctuary where creators retain complete sovereignty over their data and intellectual property. He notes that users will be able to leverage AI tools to produce content and distribute it directly to fans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re building a platform where AI serves the creator, not the corporation. If an independent artist decides tomorrow to release an AI-generated album straight to fans, bypassing labels entirely, Limewire will be a place they can do it directly, on their own terms,\u201d Czupor remarked.<\/p>\n<p>According to market stats, this news did not do much for the coin\u2019s price, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/price\/baby-doge-coin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BABYDOGE has shed 9.2%<\/a> over the last week. Since the start of 2026, the meme coin has lost 42.7% of its value against the U.S. dollar. Limewire\u2019s native token LMWR did even worse, suffering 22.2% this week, and the coin is down 64.3% year-to-date.<\/p>\n<p>While these trends had their heyday in the past, NFTs and meme coins are not seeing the demand they once saw.
