After so-called white hat hackers stole nearly 4,000 BTC on Sept. 6, they sent back around 3,400 BTC to Blockstream following back-and-forth onchain discussions. The attackers kept 598.50 BTC, and Blockstream <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/crypto-news\/return-the-bitcoin-blockstream-draws-line-after-4000-btc-hack\/\">is now demanding<\/a> that they return the funds immediately.<\/p>\n<p>It appears that talks with the attackers have not been fruitful since then. On Sept. 17, Liquid Network\u2019s official X account gave an update on the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince resuming on September 10, block production and network transactions, including LBTC transfers, have operated normally,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Liquid_BTC\/status\/2100696334596452426?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the account disclosed<\/a>. \u201cPeg-out operations remain paused while work continues with Federation members and partners toward their safe restoration.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Bull Bitcoin\u2019s 30-Day Estimate Draws Fire<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/security\/we-are-whitehats-nearly-4000-btc-drained-from-blockstreams-liquid-peg\/\">The layer two (L2) Liquid Network<\/a> account has not published a status update since then. Bull Bitcoin noted on X that because it relies on the L-BTC peg-out mechanism to balance inventories, it has also chosen to keep inbound Lightning Network payments disabled for now. Bull said it made this decision to protect users from taking the \u201crisk of holding L-BTC without compensation or a guarantee that they can exit back to BTC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The exchange added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cBased on the information we have, our expectation is that Liquid swap and exchange services allowing users to convert their L-BTC to BTC could resume within 30 days. This is an educated guess, not a guarantee.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Many X users replying to Bull Bitcoin\u2019s thread were not pleased. \u201cThat takes way too long and would destroy the Liquid Network\u2019s reputation. Peg-outs need to be enabled NOW. Don\u2019t blame Blockstream \u2026 you\u2019re part of the federation \u2026 get it sorted out,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/eurotechjunkie\/status\/2102659212916445299?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one individual wrote<\/a>. Others were not so nice. \u201cLiquid is f***ed. Forever.
