Now it\u2019s exploring how to put versions of those stocks inside a crypto app with more than 44 million confirmed accounts.<\/p>\n<p>Under a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blockchain.com\/blog\/posts\/blockchaincom-and-nyse-team-up-to-explore-tokenized-securities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">memorandum of understanding<\/a> announced Sept. 23, Blockchain.com users could eventually trade tokenized NYSE-listed equities and exchange-traded funds through NYSE\u2019s planned digital alternative trading system. The proposed venue is built around 24\/7 trading, fractional shares, dollar-sized orders, stablecoin funding and onchain settlement. There\u2019s just one wrinkle. It isn\u2019t open yet, and access remains subject to required regulatory approvals.<\/p>\n<h2>Wall Street Meets the Crypto App<\/h2>\n<p>For Blockchain.com, the attraction is straightforward. Instead of sending customers exclusively through <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/finance\/securitize-brings-neubergers-230-billion-credit-platform-onchain\/\">third-party tokenization providers<\/a>, the company could eventually connect them to infrastructure carrying the NYSE name. Peter Smith, Blockchain.com\u2019s executive chairman, CEO and co-founder, called tokenized stocks \u201cone of the most impactful advancements in the modern financial landscape, and a key catalyst for greater economic freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith further argued that geography and brokerage access shouldn\u2019t dictate who can own stocks, saying the NYSE connection could bring these assets to \u201ctens of millions of Blockchain.com users around the world.\u201d Blockchain.com says it has supported more than 95 million wallets and processed over $1.1 trillion in crypto transactions. It already offers tokenized U.S. equities in Europe <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/ondo-brings-blackrock-ivv-etf-and-micron-shares-onchain-in-us-regulatory-first\/\">through Ondo Finance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>The Deal Goes Both Ways<\/h2>\n<p>Funnily enough, stocks aren\u2019t the only thing changing hands. ICE Data Services plans to distribute <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/blockchain-com-moves-toward-ipo-with-sec-draft-s-1-filing\/\">Blockchain.com\u2019s crypto market data<\/a> and analytics to traditional finance (TradFi) customers, while selected NYSE and ICE equity feeds would flow into Blockchain.com\u2019s app. That could put live stock prices alongside bitcoin for more than 44 million confirmed accounts, with some of the information also feeding June, Blockchain.com\u2019s in-app AI assistant.<\/p>\n<p>The timing isn\u2019t accidental. On Sept. 17, the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/regulation-and-legal\/sec-cracks-open-the-door-for-wall-street-stocks-to-trade-onchain\/\">Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)<\/a> created a temporary five-year \u201cInnovation Exemption\u201d allowing qualifying venues to trade certain tokenized National Market System stocks through permissioned automated market makers and liquidity pools. The relief includes conditions intended to preserve shareholder rights and allows issuers to object. SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the agency acted after Congress failed to advance the Clarity Act.<\/p>\n<h2>A $5.5 Trillion Bet With No Opening Date<\/h2>\n<p>NYSE\u2019s digital ATS is a separate project and still requires its own regulatory path. On the flip side, the economic prize explains why exchanges are moving quickly. Citi Institute\u2019s base case puts tokenized assets <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/citi-projects-5-5t-tokenized-market-by-2030-as-wall-street-moves-onchain\/\">at $5.5 trillion by 2030<\/a>, while tokenization promises fractional ownership, round-the-clock markets and faster settlement.<\/p>\n<p>For now, there\u2019s no ticker list, fee schedule, custody model or launch quarter. The MOU is a statement of intent, not an operating market. <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/blockchain\/nyse-owner-ice-taps-tzero-as-24-7-tokenized-stock-race-ignites\/\">Alongside this, NYSE<\/a> has potentially found a storefront with 44 million crypto accounts, Blockchain.com has potentially found a direct Wall Street rail, and the SEC has opened a regulatory pathway for certain tokenized stocks. The paperwork is moving.
