Doubling in about 16 days is fast by any ETF standard but \u201cassets\u201d and \u201cinflows\u201d are not the same number.<\/p>\n<h2>Where Did the Billion Dollar figure Emanate From?<\/h2>\n<p>As of Sept. 24, Sosovalue data <a href=\"https:\/\/sosovalue.com\/assets\/etf\/us-zec-spot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">showed $1 billion in net assets<\/a> against $306.12 million in cumulative net inflows. Put another way, new money accounted for less than 30% of the fund\u2019s value that day.<\/p>\n<p>The rest comes from two places:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, ZCSH was not built from scratch but is simply the renamed version of Grayscale Zcash Trust, a vehicle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1720265\/000095017025035469\/zcsh-20241231.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">formed in October 2017<\/a>, so it arrived on NYSE Arca already holding years of ZEC.<\/li>\n<li>Second, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/crypto-news\/zcash-price-1600-21shares-europe-zec-etp\/\">ZEC has gotten much more valuable recently<\/a>. The token is trading around $1,540 as of today, roughly double its price when the ETF debuted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When the underlying asset doubles, a fund that already holds a big pile of it multiplies too, even before a single new share is created.<\/p>\n<h2>The DCG Footnote<\/h2>\n<p>Even the inflow figure needs an asterisk as earlier this month, DCG International Investments (Grayscale\u2019s parent group) acquired about $100 million of ZCSH shares \u201cin exchange for 85,705.32563297 ZEC tokens,\u201d according to Grayscale\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1720265\/000119312526385317\/zcsh-20260908.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Form 8-K filing<\/a>. The same filing notes the deal was first discussed at roughly 200,000 ZEC, which shows how far the token ran between announcement and settlement.<\/p>\n<p>Take that $100 million in-kind swap out, and fresh outside cash comes to roughly $200 million of the $1 billion headline.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Is ZEC Pulling Capital Anyway?<\/h2>\n<p>Outside money is still arriving, and the rally has drawn fresh products. One session from last week brought the fund <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/bitcoin-etf\/bitcoin-returns-to-inflows-with-159m-as-zcash-etf-draws-46-6m\/\">$46.6 million in inflows<\/a>, while at the same time 21shares listed <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/crypto-news\/zcash-price-1600-21shares-europe-zec-etp\/\">Europe\u2019s first ZEC<\/a> exchange-traded product as its price broke $1,600.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/WuBlockchain\/status\/2103333674670301255\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alliance co-founder Qiao Wang said<\/a> on the Good Game Podcast that Zcash is \u201cBitcoin that can change,\u201d adding that ZEC\u2019s ability to adapt to quantum computing and privacy demands is its edge, while Bitcoin\u2019s ossification gives it stronger guarantees on fixed supply.<\/p>\n<p>However, Wang did later concede that his firm\u2019s bitcoin holdings remain far larger than ZEC, which they treat as a hedge.<\/p>\n<p>Not everyone is sold, though, with F2pool co-founder Chun Wang calling ZEC\u2019s rally mainly narrative-driven and questioned its early reward allocation, funding model and security history.<\/p>\n<h2>What Changes on Sept. 30?<\/h2>\n<p>Grayscale\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1720265\/000119312526395068\/zcsh-20260918.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3-for-1 forward split<\/a> applies to holders of record at the close on Sept. 28 and takes effect before the open on Sept. 30. Net asset value (NAV) per share should drop to about one-third, with three times as many shares outstanding.
