That puts the quarter on track to become bitcoin\u2019s second-best Q3 ever, behind only the roughly 80.4% surge recorded in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Ethereum has done even better.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coinglass.com\/today\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Coinglass data<\/a>, ETH is up 71% this quarter, exceeding its previous Q3 record of about 66.5% set in 2025. Source: Coinglass<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Bitcoin and Ethereum Break the Usual Q3 Pattern<\/h2>\n<p>July, August and September have historically been inconsistent months for crypto, often producing flat or modest returns compared with stronger fourth-quarter periods.<\/p>\n<p>This year has been different.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin\u2019s advance represents its best Q3 performance since 2013, while ethereum has set a fresh quarterly record.<\/p>\n<p>Crypto analyst Luciano called the combination extraordinary, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LLuciano_BTC\/status\/2103801505400738263?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">writing on X<\/a> that this is the \u201c2nd best quarter ever recorded for BTC and the best quarter ETH has ever had.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The significance goes beyond percentage gains. Both assets are entering the final stretch of September with momentum already established before a quarter that has historically attracted greater speculative interest.<\/p>\n<h2>Bitcoin Survives Options Expiry and Clears Key Cost Bases<\/h2>\n<p>The setup has also improved beneath the surface.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin has moved back above <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/market-updates\/bitcoin-price-eyes-96-7k-etf-demand-spot-volume-rise\/\">several investor cost-basis levels<\/a> that capped earlier recovery attempts. ETF demand has strengthened, spot trading volume has increased, and profit-taking remains relatively restrained.<\/p>\n<p>That combination points to a rally supported by more than derivatives alone.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin\u2019s price also held up through the large Sept. 25 quarterly options expiry, an event that carried substantial open interest and had the potential to generate short-term volatility.<\/p>\n<p>With that hurdle now behind the market, attention is shifting higher.<\/p>\n<p>The next major onchain resistance level sits near the mean MVRV price around $96,700. A move toward that zone would again put bitcoin within striking distance of the psychological $100,000 level.<\/p>\n<h2>Q4 Could Put Crypto\u2019s Momentum to a Bigger Test<\/h2>\n<p>The quarter is not finished yet.<\/p>\n<p>A few trading days remain in September, leaving room for both bitcoin and ethereum to extend their already unusual Q3 performances.<\/p>\n<p>That matters because Q4 has historically been a stronger period for crypto than Q3. A powerful summer rally does not guarantee another leg higher, but it changes the starting point considerably.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin is entering the final quarter with <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/market-updates\/bitcoin-etfs-add-134m-as-7-day-inflow-streak-hits-2-98b\/\">stronger ETF demand<\/a> and improving spot activity. Ethereum is carrying record Q3 momentum.
