The cryptocurrency’s heightened volatility came as it completed its best weekly close since January and spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded their best week since October 2025.

According to the daily price chart, bitcoin, which headed into the weekend with strong support above $84,000, began trending downward late Sunday, initially sliding from near $84,900 to $82,783. The cryptocurrency’s attempt to quickly reverse losses failed as a second sell-off wave dragged the price to under $82,600 around 1:40 a.m. ET. Shortly after hitting the daily low, bitcoin kickstarted a slow recovery that pushed its price past the $83,700 mark about four hours later.

By 12:02 p.m., bitcoin traded above $83,360, having recovered from another dip below $83,000. At that price threshold, bitcoin was down 1.5% for the day and down 3% from seven days prior, leaving its market capitalization well below the $1.7 trillion mark. With just over two days before September ends, bitcoin’s price was recently more than 7% higher than at the beginning of the month.

As of this publication, Bitcoin has just ticked back to the $84,000 level as the leading cryptocurrency looks to claw back the rest of the gains it shed over the last day.

On the derivatives front, bitcoin’s price action in the past 24 hours vaporized nearly $92 million in long bets on the cryptocurrency versus $33.5 million in short bets. Overall, the crypto economy saw $398 million in long leveraged positions wiped out in the same period, compared with $132 million in short positions.

As reported by Bitcoin.com News, spot bitcoin ETFs pulled in $2.39 billion in the past week, which helped push 2026 year-to-date flows back into positive territory. Many experts see the continued flow of funds into ETFs as an indication that bitcoin will continue to rally into the fourth quarter.

However, according to Bitfinex analysts, the answer will depend on whether the buyers who drove the rally continue to buy above their own cost, a behavior that has been common historically for ETF buyers and corporate treasury accumulators such as Strategy.

“The demand side answered convincingly this week. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $2.38 billion, the largest weekly inflow since the week ending Oct. 10, 2025, enough to turn 2026 net flows positive after standing at minus $5.7 billion in mid-July,” Bitfinex analysts wrote in their latest research report.

According to market data, ETFs absorbed roughly 27,800 BTC over the week, equivalent to two months’ worth of new issuance. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) data on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) positioning shows leveraged funds hedging at most 15% of it, which analysts say indicates directional demand rather than basis-trade money.

Onchain Data Fuels Optimism

Meanwhile, analysts assert that onchain data provides a roadmap for key technical levels. This data shows the largest cluster of long-term holder supply sits between $84,000 and $85,000, where last week’s buying settled and where the next correction will be decided.

“The first major resistance is the mean Market Value to Realized Value (MVRV) price at $96,700, which is the realized price multiplied by bitcoin’s long-run average. It marks the point at which the average holder’s profit returns to its historical norm. Buyers from one to two years ago break even close to the same level, so overhead supply thickens there,” Bitfinex analysts said.

On the other hand, prices below the true market mean at $77,000 serve as the main support and the level separating a consolidation phase from a failed recovery. Bitcoin’s price holding above $84,000 keeps the path to $96,700 open, whereas a drop back into the former range below $81,300 brings $77,000 back into view.

Source link

(Originally posted on : Bitcoin News ) Key Takeaways Bitcoin rebounded near $84,000 after hitting a seven-day low of just over $82,500.
