As a result, Brent crude <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com.tr\/en\/energy\/oil\/brent-crude-rises-above-100-as-iran-rules-out-talks-with-us\/59912\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">climbed back above $100 a barrel<\/a>, up 3.2% on the day.<\/p>\n<p>Higher oil means stickier inflation, and markets moved fast to price that in, with the CME Fedwatch tool showing traders assigning a 70.3% probability to an October Federal Reserve rate hike, up from 64.2% a day earlier, per a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usagold.com\/daily-precious-metals-market-report-september-28-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">USAGOLD market report<\/a>. The 10-year Treasury yield climbed back above 5.2%, while the 30-year topped 5.3%.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, Bitcoin.com News recently asked whether oil really moves bitcoin\u2019s price, and the answer was a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/price-predictions\/does-oil-move-bitcoin-price-no-yes\/\">no and yes<\/a>.\u201d This week landed firmly in the \u201cyes\u201d column.<\/p>\n<h2>Gold\u2019s 2.9-Sigma Day<\/h2>\n<p>Rising yields hit precious metals as well, with Gold falling 3.4% on the day, a move <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KobeissiLetter\/status\/2104776508791280036\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Kobeissi Letter<\/a> called \u201cone of the rarest single-day declines of the last two decades.\u201d Since 2006, gold\u2019s average daily change has been +0.05% with a standard deviation of 1.19%, which puts Monday\u2019s drop about 2.9 standard deviations below normal.<\/p>\n<p>Spot gold sank to $4,148.69 an ounce, its lowest level since Aug. 5, while silver slid 4.31% to $61.53. Furthermore, Bitcoin.com News reported yesterday that gold and silver <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/featured\/gold-silver-550-billion-wipeout-bitcoin-price\/\">shed $550 billion<\/a> in hours as bitcoin dipped to $82,780, but the bleeding did not stop there.<\/p>\n<h2>The Leverage Flush<\/h2>\n<p>Crypto walked into today carrying plenty of borrowed money, as bitcoin had just logged its <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/market-updates\/bitcoin-price-best-weekly-close-since-january\/\">best weekly close<\/a> since January, and spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) pulled in <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/market-updates\/bitcoin-etfs-pull-2-39-billion-best-week-since-october-2025\/\">$2.39 billion last week<\/a>, their strongest week since October last year.<\/p>\n<p>In sum, optimism was high, and so was leverage. But then the floor gave way as BTC fell below $83,000 in Asian trading on Sept. 29, subsequently recovering to near the $83,250 mark.<\/p>\n<p>Altcoins such as QNT, ONDO and NEAR experienced drops between 13% and 20%, all while roughly <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cryptorover\/status\/2104768210944037120\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$500 million in crypto positions were liquidated<\/a> over 24 hours, hitting 129,197 traders.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, derivatives data showed bitcoin futures open interest, the total value of outstanding contracts, down to 650,000 BTC, its lowest since March.
