In order to solve this issue, the Layer 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/learning-insights\/bitcoin-to-solana-how-8-crypto-networks-reach-consensus\/\">blockchain network Solana<\/a> created a new tool for financial institutions, calling it Solana DvP. Essentially, the tech is described as an \u201copen-source escrow program that offers financial institutions an open-sourced API for delivery-versus-payment settlement on Solana,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/solana.com\/vi\/news\/solana-foundation-launches-solana-dv-p-an-atomic-settlement-program-built-for-financial-institutions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to the announcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The foundation claimed on Tuesday that until the DvP arrived, \u201cinstitutional trades settling onchain have typically relied on bespoke smart contracts.\u201d The Solana DvP reportedly guarantees that both the assets change hands at the exact same split second; if either side is missing, then the entire trade simply cancels, so no one loses out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAtomic settlement removes counterparty risk that is inherent in traditional finance,\u201d Catherine Gu, Solana Foundation head of product for digital assets, remarked in the release. \u201cSolana DvP program provides institutions with one open standard across the Solana ecosystem, on public infrastructure, with finality in seconds instead of days.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>JPMorgan Brings Wall Street \u2018Settlement Expertise\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/jpmorgan-strategy-1-7-billion-dividends-bitcoin-sales\/\">multinational financial institution JPMorgan<\/a>, a bank that commands $5.1 trillion in assets under management (AUM), advised the team and provided \u201cvaluable input.\u201d The Foundation explained that the bank\u2019s years of securities settlement expertise helped bolster Solana DvP development. Rhodel D\u2019souza, head of markets for digital assets at JPMorgan, insisted that institutional investors need this type of framework.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA shared, open standard for atomic delivery-versus-payment is exactly the kind of foundational infrastructure institutional market participants require to operate at scale without introducing settlement risk and counterparty exposure. We were pleased to contribute our settlement expertise,\u201d D\u2019souza said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The tool, backed by the financial giant\u2019s advice, could signal a power shift <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitcoin.com\/get-started\/blockchain-tech\/infrastructure\/what-is-a-blockchain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">toward blockchain<\/a> adoption, with TradFi leveraging ready-made rails. The question is whether or not institutional investors and banks themselves will use the Solana DvP protocol and if settlement risk truly becomes obsolete.
