Rather than using conventional payment rails for interest and redemption, the bond will distribute <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/japans-sbi-group-flips-the-stablecoin-script-with-63m-backed-jpysc-launch\/\">the stablecoin JPYSC<\/a> throughout its lifecycle.<\/p>\n<p>The arrangement provides another <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/what-are-stablecoins-a-simple-explanation-of-the-digital-asset-bridging-crypto-and-fiat\/\">test of stablecoins<\/a> in traditional financial products. JPYSC is designed to track the Japanese yen 1:1 and is classified as a Type 3 Electronic Payment Instrument under Japan\u2019s Payment Services Act. SBI Shinsei Trust Bank issues the stablecoin and manages the trust assets backing it. SBI VC Trade serves as the issuance trustor and handles issuance and distribution, while <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/startale-group-anchors-in-abu-dhabi-following-selection-for-hub71-digital-assets-program\/\">the team at Startale Group<\/a> supplies the underlying technology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy bringing finance onchain, we want to create new options for corporate fundraising and individual investment,\u201d Startale Group CEO Sota Watanabe remarked. The Startale CEO described the bond as a pilot for using JPYSC in actual interest and principal payments and said the companies intend to use what they learn from the issuance to explore broader applications in Japan.<\/p>\n<h2>A Unique Payment System<\/h2>\n<p>JPYSC itself was developed through a collaboration between <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/sbi-group-visa-launch-crypto-card-with-up-to-10-btc-eth-xrp-promo-rewards\/\">Japan\u2019s financial giant SBI Group<\/a> and Startale Group. The bond moves the stablecoin into corporate financing, an area where stablecoin use remains less established than crypto trading, payments and remittances. In this case, JPYSC is not merely attached to the bond as a blockchain component; it is the payment mechanism for scheduled interest and repayment of principal.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement does not disclose the bond\u2019s total issuance size, coupon rate, maturity date or individual investment limits. Those omissions make it difficult to assess the financial scale of the issuance from the provided materials alone. The announcement establishes a Japan-only corporate bond that uses a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/crypto-news\/jpyc-raises-38m-as-yen-stablecoin-rolls-out-to-truck-drivers\/\">yen-denominated stablecoin<\/a> for payments that would ordinarily move through traditional financial (TradFi) channels.<\/p>\n<h2>The Project\u2019s Next Challenge Is Adoption<\/h2>\n<p>Startale may be the first out of the gate with a yen-based stablecoin system, but similar structures have surfaced elsewhere. In November 2024, crypto market maker B2C2 issued an onchain corporate bond with PV01, tokenized on Ethereum and denominated in the U.S. dollar stablecoin USDC. Separately, in January 2026, Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/societe-generale-forge-deploys-mica-compliant-eur-coinvertible-stablecoin-on-stellar\/\">digital-asset arm SG-FORGE<\/a> conducted a trial with Swift that settled tokenized bonds using its euro stablecoin EURCV.<\/p>\n<p>By keeping the bond domestic and relatively modest in scope, Japan\u2019s regulators can observe how stablecoin settlement functions without immediately extending the experiment across global markets. If the Startale pilot proves workable, it could help make onchain settlement more familiar to institutions. The larger question, however, is not whether the technology works, but whether investors actually want their coupon payments delivered in tokens rather than ordinary yen.<\/p>\n<div class=\"not-prose
