Mertiz\u2019s executive brass noted:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This partnership lays the groundwork for combining Ripple\u2019s global digital asset infrastructure with our capital markets capabilities. We will prepare digital asset financial services that are safe and reliable, in stages, as the domestic regulatory environment evolves.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Fiona Murray, Ripple\u2019s head of Asia-Pacific, further said the company is looking forward to \u201cexploring how digital asset infrastructure can support the continued development of Korea\u2019s capital markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>The Order Book<\/h2>\n<p>While the ink dried, Korean traders were doing their own vote. Onchain analysts <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JuliaKellerX\/status\/2107613390197727730\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shared that by late yesterday<\/a>, the XRP\/KRW pair led Upbit\u2019s spot market at $72.3 million in volume, ahead of BTC\/KRW at $66.4 million.<\/p>\n<p>The lead held into Wednesday, with Upbit\u2019s own <a href=\"https:\/\/api.upbit.com\/v1\/ticker?markets=KRW-XRP,KRW-BTC,KRW-ETH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">market data showing<\/a> XRP with about $111.4 million (\u20a9151.2 billion) in 24-hour trading value at 05:36 UTC on Oct. 7, compared with $104.7 million (\u20a9142.1 billion) for bitcoin and $59.2 million (\u20a980.3 billion) for ether. At Upbit\u2019s tether rate of $0.9993 (\u20a91,357), that is roughly $111 million for XRP against $105 million for bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, there was no \u201ckimchi premium,\u201d the price gap that sometimes opens between Korean exchanges and global markets. XRP traded at \u20a91,995 on Upbit, about $1.47, essentially in line with the global price after Wednesday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/coinbureau\/status\/2107660936026751195\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">flash crash knocked<\/a> it from $1.52 to $1.46, suggesting that the volume reflected active trading on the drop rather than a local buying frenzy.<\/p>\n<h2>What Is Meritz Actually Shopping For?<\/h2>\n<p>The Herald report <a href=\"https:\/\/mbiz.heraldcorp.com\/article\/10895164\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lists the products Meritz is reviewing<\/a>, and it reads like a roadmap for a Korean digital asset brokerage:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight:400\" aria-level=\"1\">Spot crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs).<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight:400\" aria-level=\"1\">Fractional investment products.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight:400\" aria-level=\"1\">Security token offerings (STOs), meaning regulated securities issued as tokens.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight:400\" aria-level=\"1\">Trading platforms.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight:400\" aria-level=\"1\">Stablecoins denominated in the Korean won.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Several of these do not yet have a full legal path in Korea, which explains the careful \u201cin stages\u201d language. Custody and tokenization are the pieces Ripple can supply first, and both sit underneath the rest of that list.<\/p>\n<h2>Why the Timing Fits Korea\u2019s Calendar<\/h2>\n<p>The deal lands as Korea\u2019s rules are starting to catch up with the broader ecosystem. To this point, Bitcoin.com News reported last week that the Financial Services Commission proposed rules allowing stocks, bonds and funds to be issued and traded in tokenized form <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/regulation-and-legal\/south-korea-opens-5-trillion-market-tokenized-stocks-bonds-2027\/\">starting Feb. 4, 2027 <\/a>(beginning with institutional products).<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Ripple too has spent the past week building its own Korean network.
