The release disclosed to Bitcoin.com\u2019s newsdesk details that the goal is to explore tokenizing traditional financial assets and connecting them with international markets.<\/p>\n<p>The arrangement also opens the door to using digital representations of high-quality debt instruments as collateral across borders. It\u2019s an ambitious proposition, particularly in a market where evolving securities regulations will determine just how far the two organizations can take their plans.<\/p>\n<h2>From Korean Securities to Global Collateral<\/h2>\n<p>The memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishes three areas of cooperation, beginning with converting domestic financial assets into blockchain-based tokens under Korea\u2019s developing regulatory framework. The partners will also examine Canton\u2019s privacy-enabled infrastructure for institutional financial transactions and investigate <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/swift-launches-a-blockchain-ledger-to-bring-24-7-cross-border-payments-to-the-global-banking-system\/\">cross-border applications<\/a> involving tokenized sovereign-grade debt.<\/p>\n<p>That last component carries particular financial significance. High-quality liquid assets, including certain government securities, are widely used as collateral in traditional finance (TradFi). <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/blockchain\/imf-warns-65-billion-tokenization-market-has-a-dangerous-catch\/\">Tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs)<\/a>, the foundation noted, offers a potential mechanism for transferring and coordinating those assets across participating financial platforms. However, the announcement describes exploratory initiatives rather than completed transactions or operational products.<\/p>\n<h2>Canton Adds Another Institutional Partner<\/h2>\n<p>Developed by Digital Asset, Canton operates as a public blockchain designed to accommodate institutional privacy requirements. Its broader ecosystem reportedly includes more than 1,000 institutions, with 62 major organizations serving as Super Validators.<\/p>\n<p>Meritz Securities brings substantial financial backing to the arrangement. The <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bitcoin.com\/stablecoins\/moonpay-enlists-south-korean-banking-giants-asian-stablecoin-push\/\">South Korean<\/a> investment firm reported 8.35 trillion won in standalone shareholders\u2019 equity as of June 2026, ranking fourth domestically by that measure.
