XRP Futures Top $56 Billion Across 3 Exchanges as Trading Rebounds

Key Takeaways
- Binance led September XRP futures trading with $32.36 billion.
- Three major exchanges together handled approximately $56.18 billion.
- Higher futures turnover does not establish fresh capital inflows.
September’s XRP Rebound Still Trails Earlier Peaks
XRP derivatives activity remained among the highest levels seen in six months, according to an analysis published by Cryptoquant on Oct. 6. The platform provides crypto market analytics. Cryptoquant contributor Arab Chain tracked XRP futures trading across major exchanges, comparing September with August.
The exchange breakdown places Binance first with approximately $32.36 billion in September volume, followed by Bybit at $12.5 billion. OKX recorded about $11.32 billion, bringing the three platforms’ combined total to roughly $56.18 billion. Other exchanges accounted for the remainder.
September’s rebound remained below earlier peaks, providing a longer perspective on the latest uptick. “Higher futures volumes can indicate greater liquidity and more active positioning among traders,” the analyst stated as a possible implication of higher participation.
Against that backdrop, XRP traded at $1.51 on Oct. 6 as of writing, approximately 8.5% below its September high of $1.657. The coin hovered near $1.50 in recent sessions, showing consolidation after the retreat from last month’s peak, though XRP still remains over 58% below its all-time high mark of $3.65 set in 2025.
Billions in Turnover Do Not Establish Bullish Bets
Trading volume adds up the value of contracts traded during a period. The same money can support several trades, so $56.18 billion in volume does not mean investors deposited $56.18 billion. Open interest instead measures contracts that remain unsettled.
Participants use derivatives to anticipate gains, position for declines, or offset potential losses on existing holdings. Perpetual futures provide price exposure without an expiration date. Leverage allows positions larger than deposited collateral, magnifying profits and losses. Liquidity describes the ability to transact without substantially moving prices; a higher monthly total alone cannot confirm that condition.
Losses on leveraged positions can trigger forced closures when deposited collateral falls below required levels. That risk has eased recently, with an Oct. 2 analysis also published by Cryptoquant identifying fewer forced XRP position closures on Binance after repeated spikes from late July through September. That analysis linked the prospects for sustained gains to spot buying and supportive price trends.
Institutional Access and Charts Offer Separate Signals
Beyond the crypto exchanges in the September breakdown, investors also have access to XRP contracts through regulated venues. One such option is CME Group, a leading derivatives exchange operator, which on May 20, 2025, confirmed the start of XRP futures trading. These contracts support investment and hedging, which involves offsetting financial risks.
Alongside that access, Matt Hougan, chief investment officer at crypto asset manager Bitwise, outlined a broader investment case. Discussing XRP’s appeal to financial advisers in a video shared Sept. 28, he emphasized its longevity and connections to cross-currency transfers and liquidity. Confidence in the asset’s persistence differs from an expectation of appreciation.
Veteran trader Peter Brandt offered a technical perspective in an Oct. 5 post on X, illustrating a possible bullish XRP chart pattern. In technical analysis, a coffee cup suggested a cup-and-handle interpretation, or a rounded recovery followed by a smaller pullback. The daily chart marked a horizontal level at $1.6572 above a displayed price of $1.5230. That represented an approximately 8.8% advance from the chart’s reading.
